new in East Tennessee
owner forums are a great asset for anything, I hope that this one is still alive and kicking.
I expect to be a new owner in October. I was wondering if there are any Struck owners around East Tennessee. I am in Jellico but can drive pretty far to see one.
We have a 100 acres of raw mountain wilderness with old logging roads that need attention and reclaiming. It is very rocky and steep. I think the RS1000 with the trip dump bucket and blade would be great for the roads. I would also like to clear some land and wonder if the RS is heavy enough to push over trees and pull stumps.
Any advice is appreciated.
Hey Chris, I have the MH8000, and I have re-done my whole shop yard with it and dug many trench and carved washes with the blade. My experience would lean you towards needing a bigger machine than the rs1000. I have even thought of selling mine and getting the diesel version coming out. I wouldn’t want anything smaller than the mh8000 to do any dirt moving on any sort of hills.
I also got paid to clean up a house site, which I made some forks for my bucket and cleared a lot of timber. If you need to move wood I don’t think that smaller machine will help you get too much done. The 8000 has about 850lb lifting. And tree weight adds up quick. Hope this helps.
Hi Chris- I live in middle TN and am seriously thinking about the MH series for the same reasons you are. Have you bought yet? Not a lot of owner info out there that’s not dated. Also would love to see one in person first- or at least talk to an owner. Any info would be appreciated.
I am in SW North Carolina in the mountains. When I moved here from FL, I brought my 7000 with me. It has gotten a real workout grading roads and driveways, and digging trenches and cleaning drainage ditches. It is not pretty anymore, but is still very functional!
Hi Jack Lurie
i would really appreciate seeing your struck. Where are you? I hope i can make a day trip to you. I am in Jellico, Tn. Shopping the MH4900 or 8000. Want to reclaim old, steep logging roads.
Hi Chris- I live in Bradyville TN (zip 37026) and bought a MH 8000 with Backhoe back in January (I posted above in November). Don’t have the backhoe on at present put the HL 900 with Excavating Bucket on front and currently have boxblade on back. I understand seeing one is a lot better than pictures. If you’d like to make your way out this way you’re welcome to. Let me know.
PS I was unable to see one prior to purchasing.
That’s great Steve! thanks.
I have business at NASA in Hunstville next week. I would like to swing through Thursday evening or Friday lunch. does that work?
Hey Steve P.
I’m actually heading to Huntsville via your way this afternoon Steve P.
