What’s the best way to remove leaves in fall? Do you get rid of the dead foliage every weekend or wait until the end of the season? Do you prefer manual or mechanical leaf removal tools? If you find it difficult to keep your yard tidy during the fall, here are some of the best leaf removal tips and tricks:
Choose the Right Rake for You!
This is a classic, and reliable, way to remove those leaves. Some may say the bigger the rake, the less work to do! However, we recommend to use a rake with 30 to 36 inch fan. Any larger and you may not be able to rake between your flowerbeds! Most rakes come in this size anyways.
How about a Faster (and More Fun) Method – the Leaf Blower!
It’s more expensive than a rake, but it is more efficient and definitely more fun. Use your leaf blower to attack those leaves. Just make sure you’re not blowing your leaves into your neighbor’s yard.
Get a Tarp!
Instead of putting those leaves into a million little bags, just get a large tarp to put the leaves on! Rake or blow your leaves onto the tarp and drag the tarp around until you’re done!
Invest in a Yard Vac!
These may be on the pricey side, it sucks the leaves right up into a bag for you! It’s especially handy in hard to reach areas. On top of all that, the some yard vac’s minces the leaves for you, so you don’t have to empty the bag every few minutes.
Use a Lawn Mower!
If you have a lawn mower, you can use it to shred the leaves. Some mowers come with leaf specific attachments. This comes in handy if you have a big yard. In addition, shredding the leaves will allow you to repurpose them into compost. mulch, or fertilizer!
Try Something Unconventional!
Now if none of the above spoke to you, why don’t you give this a try! In a viral video posted by Brian Shreves, he uses a flexible piece of sheeting that he found in his garage! I suppose a sturdy piece of cardboard would work as well. Just be sure to try this BEFORE it rains! This is the cheapest way to clear those leaves for sure.
